Hi, I’m Katherine
Filament grew out of the work I’ve loved most throughout my career: helping writers find the clearest, most compelling version of what they want to say.
I’m Katherine Latshaw, a Senior Vice President and literary agent at Folio Literary Management, which I joined in 2013. Before joining Folio, I was an agent at The Literary Group International and worked at the literary agency and book packager Stonesong, taking part in every stage of bookmaking—from editing and design to sales and photo shoots. That wide-angle view has taught me how to spot the thesis at the heart of a piece and shape it into a strong narrative, helping writers to discover and refine their voices on the page.
I ask questions, offer specific editorial guidance and line edits, and explain the “why” behind every suggestion. I never write for students. My goal isn’t simply to produce a stronger college essay—it’s to instill a sense of self-assurance in the student’s writing. Communicating one’s ideas effectively is an essential skill that is invaluable in every facet of life and career.
Working one-on-one with students is a passion of mine, arising from my fervent belief that human-generated writing should be celebrated in this burgeoning age of AI.
